Join award-winning artist, author, educator, and scientist John Muir Laws, aka Jack, for this fun, engaging, and empowering class on drawing and painting “happy little trees” in your nature journal—in honor of Bob Ross’ birthday (he would have been 81 on Oct 29). In this 2-hour recorded class, you will learn how to draw trees in all their forms—individual trees, blocks of trees, and far off trees as part of a larger landscape. With his signature playfulness and good humor, Jack will demonstrate his best tips and techniques—using pencil, watercolor, and gouache—for drawing trees that he has learned through his 35 years of teaching, illustrating, and journaling.
All ages and levels welcome.
Please make a tax-deductible donation of $25 or more if you are able, using the drop-down menu. This is a fundraiser to support Wild Wonder Foundation’s Micro Grant Program, which will debut in 2024.
ABOUT JOHN MUIR LAWS
John Muir Laws is a principal leader and innovator of the worldwide nature journaling movement. John, who goes by Jack, is an award-winning naturalist, artist, scientist, and educator who has dedicated nearly four decades of his life to connecting people to nature through art and science. From an early age, his parents instilled in him a deep love and respect for nature. Over the years, that love has grown to a commitment to stewardship, nature conservation, and a passion to share the delight of exploring nature with others. As a writer, scientist, and artist, Jack has developed numerous interdisciplinary educational programs that train students to observe with rigor and to refine techniques to become intentionally curious. (See Resources.)
He is the award-winning author and illustrator of several books including The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling (also available in Spanish), the Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada, and Sierra Wildflowers: A Hiker’s Guide, among other books. He is co-author with Emilie Lygren of How to Teach Nature Journaling. Learn more about John Muir Laws here.
