Let’s Draw Trees! with Kate Rutter and Cathy Raingarden: 4/6/25 9:30-11am Pacific
Join experienced sketchers Cathy Raingarden and Kate Rutter for a FREE live online class on ways to celebrate trees in our sketchbooks. We'll have a "tree-mendous" time drawing trees together and kick off the #ArborApril challenge!

This fun sketching session pulls together approaches from Urban Sketching and Nature Journaling, both of which have a rich admiration for and unique approaches to observing and drawing trees, leaves, bark, and habitat. Bring your favorite sketching and journaling materials and sketch lots of trees during this interactive session. You will "leaf" with new skills and strategies for drawing and journaling your favorite arboreal neighbors.

All ages and levels are welcome.
Materials:
Bring your favorite drawing/sketching/journaling supplies (paper, pencil, pen)
Color media recommended (colored pencils or watercolors, brush, and water)
A few sheets of watercolor paper

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Cathy Raingarden is a visual storyteller, urban sketcher, illustrator, and teacher from Berkeley, CA. Her degree in landscape architecture nurtured her profound love of trees. She leads the East Bay urban sketching group, First Saturday Urban Sketchers. Cathy's artwork can be seen in the pages of Edible East Bay and in Chip Sullivan’s book, Field Sketching for Environmental Designers.
Kate Rutter is a lifelong sketcher with an experimental and rambunctious visual practice. An avid nature journaler, urban naturalist, educator, and native plant enthusiast, she leads nature journaling workshops and outings, and can often be found nature journaling tenacious plants who grow up between cracks in the pavement.
